What makes classes taught through The Good Pup different from the others? To start class sizes are kept as minimal as possible, usually around 6 dogs. Second each person and pup received personal attention during each class. The philosophy of our teaching style is to first show you how, then help you walk through the exercise and lastly test to see that you've learned the proper technique..
We also take a unique approach to training by implementing many different styles. Not all dogs are the same and not all dogs respond to the same training method. While reward base training is the main component of our classes other strategies are often used. With that being said no harsh or cruel corrections are used. It is our thought that the most effective and efficient training both communicates to your dog the behaviors you like and
the behaviors you don't like.
You will also find with each class the ability to talk with the instructor after every class to address behavior and training issues and you will also have contact with them via email and phone. This is a program that is set up to see you and your puppy succeed. Don't let your dog become another statistic of the many dogs surrendered to animal shelters due to poor manners and behavior problems.
Puppy Classes are designed to incorporate socialization and the basics of obedience. Appropriate ages are 7 weeks to 16 weeks.
Puppy obedience is similar to beginning obedience, however it has age limitations that puppies must be 11 months or younger. Often these classes move faster because the puppies are still open to new commands. Many new commands are covered including heeling and leash walking
This class is similar to puppy obedience, but designed for older dogs. Dogs may have little training or may need to just brush up on the basics. Again commands such as sit, down, come, stay, leash walking and heal.
This is the final polish to the basic obedience that you learned in beginning obedience. In this class your dog learns how to interact in public with manners. This is also a good class for those pups that do not quite have their manners nailed down as home or in social situations. The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) format outlined by AKC is followed and sets you up to take the test at the end of class. There are many benefits to having your dog certified as a CGC, including discounts on home owners insurance, use as a therapy dog as well as just being an over all pleasant dog to be around.
